My Code of Ethics
By Carolyn Price
Purpose: My Code of Ethics aims to express my values and beliefs in writing. These values and beliefs make me who I am. I use my values and beliefs to guide my behavior and actions as I work in government and my community. My Code of Ethics reflects high ethical standards and will help me make decisions, especially when I face an ethical dilemma.
I will be honest and transparent. Telling the truth and letting people know what the truth is shows integrity and credibility. Being honest and transparent also shows people I respect and value them.
I will keep my promises and honor my commitments. When I say I will do something, I will keep that commitment. I will get back to people to let them know what I have done and how I can help them.
I will show kindness and empathy to people. I will show kindness with my words and deeds. I will show empathy through listening and “getting in the other person’s shoes.”
I will be patient with people. I will give people my time and not rush them when expressing themselves.
I will be fair with people. I will not use favoritism or let biases influence me. I will remain impartial and fair.
I will inspire people. I see potential in every person. I will look for each person’s strengths, and we will plan how best to use and develop those strengths.
I will be accountable for my mistakes. I will take responsibility for my mistakes and say I am sorry. Accountability is very important to me.
I will show humbleness and selflessness in my work. I will be a role model for helping others who are less fortunate. I will be generous with my time to help other people.
I will treat other people as I wish to be treated. I will follow the Golden Rule of moral behavior. I will be honest, transparent, respectful, kind, empathetic, patient, fair, inspirational, equitable, supportive, accountable, humble, and selfless.
I will use My Code of Ethics as my moral compass.
